Ingredient Notes
To make these delicious air fryer pizza rolls, you will need the following ingredients (full measurements in recipe card below):
- pizza sauce - choose either pizza sauce or marinara sauce to fill the rolls. Set half to the side for dipping.
- seasonings - season the filling with garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.
- cheese - this pizza roll recipe calls for cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese, and parmesan cheese for the perfect melt.
- mini pepperoni - use thin pepperoni slices or chop them into small pieces.
- wonton wrappers - these raw wrappers are available at your grocery store. They're a lot easier than making homemade pizza dough.
- cooking spray - the cooking spray will help give the wonton wrappers the perfect, bubbly crust and texture.
You will also need a variety of mixing bowls and an air fryer.
How to Make the Best Air Fryer Pizza Rolls
- Make sauce. In a small mixing bowl, combine pizza sauce, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper. Mix well and set aside ¼ cup for serving.
- Combine cheese. In a medium mixing bowl, combine cheddar cheese, mozzarella and parmesan. Mix well. You can chop the cheese into small pieces for even mixing.
- Assemble. Prepare a small bowl of water for sealing the wonton wrappers. Take one wonton wrapper at a time and add 1 teaspoon of the pizza sauce mixture on the centre of the wonton wrapper. Top with 1 tablespoon of cheese mixture and 3-4 slices of pepperoni.
- Fold wontons. Dip your finger into the bowl of water and smear it along the edge of the wrapper. Fold each corner of the wrapper over to the centre like an envelope to seal the filling inside. Repeat with all the wrappers.
- Air fry. Place the pizza rolls (in batches) in an even layer in the air fryer basket and spray evenly with cooking oil spray. Cook at 350F for 8-10 minutes until golden brown.
- Serve. Serve with the extra pizza sauce mixture or your favorite dipping sauce.
Recipe Variations
- Pizza egg rolls. Use egg roll wrappers instead and roll them into little logs.
- Use pizza dough. Ditch the wonton wrappers and make your own pizza dough for tiny little pizza bites.
- Pizza crescent rolls. Fill store-bought crescent roll dough with the pizza toppings and bake them in our Pizza Crescent Rolls recipe!
- Make different fillings. Use your favorite pizza toppings to make air fry pizza rolls in a variety of flavors. Try ham and pineapple, vegetarian, meat lover's, or margherita.
- Deep fried pizza rolls. You can deep fry the pizza rolls in a pot filled with 2 inches of hot oil until golden and puffy, about 1-2 minutes. See our Homemade Taquitos recipe for instructions on how to deep fry.
How to Serve
This air fryer pizza roll recipe is delicious served on its own as a appy with a side of Marinara Sauce for dipping, or as a main meal paired with some of my favorite sides including:
- Italian Pasta Salad
- Pizza Dip
- Italian Meatballs
- Tomato Bruschetta with Balsamic Glaze
- Antipasto Skewers
Recipe Tips and Tricks
- Don't overfill. Just like making ravioli, overfilled pizza rolls will explode in the air fryer and cause a mess.
- Cool before eating. That molten, gooey cheese will burn your mouth. Let the pizza rolls cook for a few minutes before serving them with your favorite sauce, like Ranch dressing or marinara sauce.
- Get a good crust. One of the best parts of Totinos pizza rolls is the crust. To get that nice, crisp texture, spritz them with a little olive oil or cooking spray before baking.
Storing and Freezing Instructions
How to Store
Store leftover pizza rolls in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days.
How to Reheat
The best way to serve leftover pizza rolls is by toasting them again in the air fryer. Bake them at 350 degrees F for 4-6 minutes or until nice and warm.
How to Freeze
Place the chilled mini pizza rolls in a freezer safe bag and freeze them for 2-3 months. Thaw them in the fridge before reheating.
FAQ
Technically, the air fryer circulates air around the pizza rolls, so they're already crisping up on every side. It can help to flip the rolls to make sure they cook evenly about halfway through the cooking time, but this is optional.
Pizza rolls are commonly eaten as a quick snack, but you can also serve them as an appetizer or as a light main course. Try serving them with some vegetables, like a large Italian salad or caprese skewers, for a more balanced meal. As an appetizer, they're wonderful with breaded chicken wings, French onion dip, or any of these other 75 easy appetizer recipes.
Although making pizza isn't hard, it can be tricky to make homemade pizza rolls that remind you of the frozen pizza rolls from your childhood. The secret is to use wonton wrappers! These thin wrappers have the perfect bite and texture, and they're already square, making them easy to mold and shape into little envelopes. Simply fill them with a mixture of cheese, sauce, and your favorite toppings, then seal and bake!
