Creamy vanilla and bright, citrusy orange are a match made for summer, and these Orange Creamsicles have the perfect balance of both. Made with orange juice, fresh orange zest, Greek yogurt, and a rich vanilla cream mixture, they're smooth, refreshing, and bursting with sweet orange flavor. The pretty orange and cream swirls make them extra fun, but the real magic is in that creamy, citrusy flavor combination.

One of my favorite things about this recipe is the beautiful orange and cream swirl. Instead of blending everything together, the orange mixture and vanilla cream are layered into the popsicle molds and gently swirled for that classic creamsicle look. The Greek yogurt makes the popsicles extra creamy, while sweetened condensed milk adds just the right amount of sweetness. Plus, they take about 10 minutes to prepare before the freezer does the rest of the work.
Keep a batch of these orange creamsicle popsicles in the freezer for hot summer afternoons, pool days, barbecues, or anytime you need a cool and refreshing treat. They're creamy, citrusy, and basically summer on a stick.

Ingredients and Substitutions

To make this delicious Orange Creamsicles, you will need the following ingredients (see recipe card below for quantities):
- orange juice - The star of the orange layer. Freshly squeezed orange juice gives you the brightest citrus flavor, but good-quality store-bought orange juice works well too. I recommend using pulp-free juice for the smoothest popsicles.
- orange zest - Adds concentrated orange flavor and makes the citrus really pop. Zest the orange before squeezing out the juice if you're using fresh oranges.
- Greek yogurt - Plain whole milk Greek yogurt is used in both layers and gives the popsicles a rich, creamy texture. Full-fat regular yogurt can also work, but the mixture may be slightly thinner.
- heavy cream - Makes the vanilla layer extra rich and creamy. You can substitute with half-and-half for a slightly lighter texture.
- sweetened condensed milk - Sweetens the cream layer while adding even more creaminess. Make sure you're using sweetened condensed milk, not evaporated milk.
- vanilla extract - Gives the cream layer that classic vanilla creamsicle flavor. Use pure vanilla extract for the best flavor.
- salt - Just a pinch balances the sweetness and brings out the orange and vanilla flavors.
Equipment
You'll also need measuring cups and spoons, two medium mixing bowls, a whisk, popsicle molds, popsicle sticks, a spoon, and a wooden skewer or butter knife for swirling.
Instructions
- Prepare the orange layer. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the orange juice, orange zest, and Greek yogurt until well combined.

- Make the cream layer. In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the Greek yogurt, heavy cream, sweetened condensed milk, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth and creamy.

- Fill the popsicle molds. You can either create a swirled creamsicle effect or combine the mixtures for a uniform orange creamsicle flavor:
- For swirled creamsicles: Alternate spoonfuls of the orange mixture and cream mixture into each popsicle mold. Use a wooden skewer or butter knife to gently swirl the mixtures together 1 to 2 times. Do not overmix or the distinct orange and cream swirls will disappear.

- For uniform creamsicles: Combine the orange mixture and cream mixture in a large bowl and whisk until smooth, then pour the mixture evenly into the popsicle molds.

- Add the sticks. Fill the molds, leaving about ¼ inch of space at the top for expansion. Insert popsicle sticks according to your mold's instructions.

- Freeze. Transfer the popsicle molds to the freezer and freeze for at least 6 hours, or preferably overnight, until completely firm.
- Unmold and serve. Run the outside of the popsicle molds under warm water for 10 to 15 seconds. Gently pull on the sticks to release the creamsicles and serve immediately.
Expert Tip: Don't Over-Swirl
The secret to those pretty orange and cream ribbons is knowing when to stop swirling. Layer the two mixtures into the molds, then run a skewer through each popsicle just once or twice. If you keep swirling, the layers will completely blend together and you'll lose the creamsicle effect. They'll still taste delicious, of course, but a light hand gives you those beautiful swirls in every popsicle.
More Tips and Tricks
- Use full-fat Greek yogurt. Whole milk Greek yogurt gives these orange creamsicles the creamiest texture and helps prevent them from becoming too icy.
- Choose a flavorful orange juice. Since orange is the star of the recipe, use freshly squeezed juice or a good-quality store-bought orange juice that you enjoy drinking.
- Zest before juicing. It's much easier to zest a whole orange than one that's already been cut and squeezed.
- Whisk the cream layer until smooth. Make sure the sweetened condensed milk is fully incorporated so every bite has the same creamy sweetness.
- Layer with a spoon. Spoon the mixtures into the molds instead of pouring them for more control over the orange and cream layers.
- Leave room for expansion. Don't fill the molds all the way to the top. Leave about ¼ inch of space since the mixture will expand as it freezes.
- Freeze overnight if possible. Six hours should be enough, but overnight freezing gives you the firmest popsicles and makes them easier to unmold.
- Don't force them out of the molds. If the creamsicles aren't releasing easily, run the molds under warm water for another few seconds and try again.
Recipe Variations
- Make them extra orange-y. Add a little extra orange zest to the orange layer for an even brighter citrus flavor.
- Use vanilla bean paste. Replace the vanilla extract with vanilla bean paste for a richer vanilla flavor and pretty vanilla bean specks.
- Try another citrus fruit. Swap the orange juice for blood orange, mandarin, or tangerine juice for a fun twist.
- Make them lighter. Replace the heavy cream with half-and-half for a slightly lighter creamy orange popsicle.
- Add berries. Drop a few finely chopped strawberries or raspberries into the molds between layers for a fruity twist.
- Make mini creamsicles. Use mini popsicle molds for smaller treats that are perfect for kids and summer parties.

Storage
How to Store
Store orange creamsicles in their popsicle molds in the freezer for up to 2 weeks. Once completely frozen, you can also unmold them and wrap each popsicle individually in plastic wrap or parchment paper, then transfer them to an airtight freezer-safe container or freezer bag.
How to Prevent Freezer Burn
Wrap each creamsicle tightly and store in an airtight container or freezer bag with as much air removed as possible. This helps prevent ice crystals from forming and keeps the popsicles from absorbing other flavors in the freezer. For the best flavor and creamy texture, enjoy them within 2 weeks.
How to Serve
These Orange Creamsicles are the perfect frozen treat for hot summer days. Serve them straight from the freezer for an easy afternoon snack, poolside treat, or refreshing dessert after a summer dinner.

FAQ
A popsicle is a general term for a frozen treat served on a stick and can be made with fruit juice, pureed fruit, yogurt, or other ingredients. A creamsicle traditionally combines a fruity orange flavor with a creamy vanilla component, giving it its signature orange and cream taste.
The key to creamy homemade creamsicles is using ingredients with enough fat and richness to prevent the popsicles from freezing too hard or icy. Whole milk Greek yogurt, heavy cream, and sweetened condensed milk all help create a smooth, creamy texture. The sweetened condensed milk also adds sugar, which lowers the freezing point and helps keep the popsicles slightly softer.
Absolutely. Freshly squeezed orange juice gives these creamsicles a bright, fresh citrus flavor, but good-quality store-bought orange juice works very well too. I recommend choosing 100% orange juice without added sweeteners and using a pulp-free variety for the smoothest texture.
Yes! If you don't have popsicle molds, you can use small paper cups or freezer-safe cups instead. Fill the cups with the orange and cream mixtures, cover the tops with aluminum foil, and insert a popsicle stick through the center of the foil. Once completely frozen, peel away the paper cup or briefly run the outside of a reusable cup under warm water to release the popsicle.
Homemade popsicles can become icy when the mixture contains too much water and not enough fat or sugar. Orange juice naturally freezes quite firm, which is why this recipe adds Greek yogurt to the orange layer and uses heavy cream and sweetened condensed milk in the vanilla layer.
Homemade orange creamsicles are best enjoyed within about two weeks for the freshest flavor and creamiest texture. They can technically stay frozen longer, but ice crystals may begin to form and the popsicles can absorb odors from the freezer.
