Welcome to Ahead of Thyme, established in 2015, where we share tried and tested family recipes inspired by our Middle Eastern and Asian roots, our Western upbringing, and our travels around the world.

- We're Canadian and live in beautiful Vancouver, BC.
- We love to travel and have visited over 30 countries.
- We've been married for 10 years and are parents to two young children.
- Sam went to law school and practiced law until 2018, when she took the blog full-time.
- Dan has an engineering background and left his full-time sales job in 2022 to join the blog full-time.
Frequently Asked Questions
Ahead of Thyme was created in December 2015. At the time, we had just gotten married, and I (Sam) was starting my career in the legal industry as a newly minted lawyer. While I was putting myself through university and law school, my love for baking had taken a back seat. It wasn't until we got married that I really started cooking for the first time.
Cooking quickly became my new creative outlet, just like baking had been throughout my childhood and teen years. I found myself experimenting with flavors again and documenting my adventures in the kitchen. I started posting photos of the meals I was making for Danny and I on social media, and the response was so encouraging that it inspired me to create Ahead of Thyme.
