Description

Green Beans with Bacon is a delicious, flavorful side dish that comes together quickly in 20 minutes (including prep!) with a handful of simple ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds green beans, ends trimmed
  • 1/2 pound bacon stripscut into 2-inch pieces
  • 1 small oniondiced
  • 2 cloves garlicminced
  • 1/2 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper (or to taste)

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add green beans and cook until tender, about 3-4 minutes. Drain under cold running water for a minute and set aside.
  2. Add bacon to a large skillet and cook over medium-high heat until browned on both sides and crisp, about 3-4 minutes. Leave the bacon fat in the skillet and transfer the bacon onto a plate.
  3. In the same pan, add onion and garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  4. Stir in the blanched green beans and cook until warmed through, about 1-2 minutes. Stir well to coat.
  5. Return the bacon to the skillet and add balsamic vinegar, salt, and pepper. Toss to combine and cook for one more minute. Serve immediately.

Notes

How to store: Allow the sautéed green beans with bacon to cool to room temperature first, the place them an airtight container refrigerate for up to 4 days. Reheat on the stove over medium-low heat until warmed through.

How to freeze: You can also freeze this side dish! Spread the leftover green beans and bacon on a parchment-lined half sheet baking pan and freeze for 2 hours, then transfer it a freezer bag and freeze for up to 3 months. You can reheat straight from the freezer by sautéing until heated and crisp or baking at 450℉ for 10-15 minutes. You can also air fry leftovers at 400℉ for 7-12 minutes until warmed through.
