Description
Who says snack time can’t feel like a party? These Baked Cheddar Cheese Sticks are crispy, golden, and downright addictive — all without the deep fryer. Made with real cheddar string cheese, a crunchy breadcrumb coating, and baked until bubbly, they’re a fun twist on the classic mozzarella sticks we all know and love.
Ingredients
- 12 cheddar cheese strings or sticks
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, grated
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
Instructions
- Take each cheddar cheese string cheese and cut it in half to create 2 shorter sticks. Set aside.
- Use three shallow bowls: in the first, whisk together the flour, salt, and pepper. In the second, add the beaten eggs. In the third, mix together the panko breadcrumbs, Parmesan, garlic powder, oregano, and parsley.
- Working one piece at a time, dredge the halved cheddar sticks in the flour to coat, then dip into the eggs, making sure all sides are covered. Finally, roll in the breadcrumb mixture until completely coated. Repeat until all are breaded.
- Place the coated cheddar cheese sticks on a parchment-lined baking sheet (this prevents sticking). Freeze for at least 2 hours, or until completely solid.
- Bake. When ready to cook, preheat your oven to 400°F and position the rack in the lower third of the oven. Bake the frozen cheddar cheese sticks for 8–10 minutes, until the coating is golden and crispy. Keep a close eye on them — they’ll start to ooze if baked too long!
- Enjoy hot with marinara, pizza sauce, ranch, or your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
How to store: Keep leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. To absorb extra moisture, consider lining the container with paper towels.
How to reheat: Reheat in a 375°F oven or air fryer for 5–7 minutes until crispy again.
How to freeze: Coat the cheese sticks, then freeze unbaked on a tray. Once solid, transfer to a freezer bag. Bake straight from frozen, adding 2–3 extra minutes.
