Description

Easy Sausage Stuffing is a classic holiday side dish made with Italian sausage, bread cubes, and tons of fresh herbs. Each spoonful is flavorful, moist, and comforting — perfect for sharing with family and friends on Thanksgiving dinner or any other special occasion.

Ingredients

  • 8 cups dried bread cubes (about 350 grams), homemade or store-bought
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 4 stalks celery, diced
  • 1 pound sweet or spicy Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon fresh rosemary, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon fresh sage
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • ½ teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper (or to taste)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350F.
  2. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat for 2 minutes. Add onion, garlic, and celery and sauté until tender, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add stuffing cubes to a large mixing bowl. Add the veggie mixture and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add sausages and cook for 8-10 minutes until browned on all sides and cooked through. Break the sausages into small pieces using a spatula.
  5. Add the cooked sausage to the mixing bowl with bread cubes and vegetables.
  6. Add thyme, rosemary, sage, chicken broth, egg, salt, and pepper to the bowl and toss well until evenly combined.
  7. Transfer the stuffing mixture into a 9x13-inch casserole dish and bake for 40-50 minutes until the top turns golden brown and crisp.
  8. Serve warm with turkey if desired. You can store the stuffing in a large ziploc bag in the freezer for up to 3 months. Defrost and bake in the oven again until heated through.

Notes

How to store: Store the sausage stuffing in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 4 days.

How to reheat: Reheat in an oven or air fryer at 350°F for 4-5 minutes, or until warm. You can also pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds to 1 minute.

How to freeze: You can store leftover stuffing in a freezer bag or freezer-safe container in the freezer for up to 3 months. Defrost overnight in the refrigerator and reheat in the oven until warmed through.
