Layer fresh fruits, creamy yogurt and crunchy granola for a delicious and healthy breakfast or a simple dessert. Fruit and yogurt parfait with granola is quick and easy to make. Today’s parfait is made with one of my favourite fruits: pomegranate 🙂
When made right, parfaits make an excellent healthy choice for breakfast.
- Yogurt provides calcium and protein in addition other nutrients.
- Fruits add important nutrients, including vitamin c, amounts of which will vary on the type of fruit of fruit that you add.
- Granola is loaded with fiber and can be low in fat and sugar.
But be wary of purchasing parfaits at your local cafe or franchise restaurants. They may appear to be healthy when in reality, you may be putting high amounts of fats and sugars into your body. Parfaits make a healthy breakfast choice only when created with non-fat yogurt and when it is low in sugar. That’s why you are sooo much better off making your own parfait. And to eliminate unnecessary sugars from your granola, I highly suggest making your own homemade granola as well! Store-bought granola is overly processed and full of sugar, fats and preservatives. Thry this with my homemade Almond Pecan Granola or Coconut Maple Walnut Granola. Both are amazing in this parfait and it’s easy to make. They only take 5 minutes to prepare and 30 minutes to bake.
I use non-fat yogurt in this parfait and I prefer it to be plain. I find plain yogurt allows the natural sweet taste of the fruits and granola to truly be recognized. It is a little runny so if you prefer your yogurt to stay stiff and in tact and not run down the sides, use low-fat Greek yogurt. If I am serving this as a dessert, I go for the Greek yogurt mainly for its aesthetic appeal.
My favourite fruit to use in this recipe is pomegranate. I also like to use berries. Frozen fruit can work in this recipe but try and use fresh fruit. The two just don’t compare. When berries are out of season, use bananas, apples, or oranges. Get creative 🙂
With strawberries, blueberries and blackberries:
- In a tall rounded glass, pour ¼ cup of yogurt into the glass surface.
- Add ¼ cup of granola over top and smooth.
- Add ¼ cup of fruit overtop and smooth.
